PINEMERE
Pinemere Camp is special because our team of staff is full of amazing individuals. Our staff is not simply a group of adult supervisors, but very much a part of the camp family. From near and far, we assemble a group of more than 100 staff to help make camp incredible experience. It is our goal to provide a very well supervised environment for our campers, which is supported by our staff-to-camper ratio of 3:1. This staff is hired for their skills and enthusiasm, insight, and dedication to making the summer fun for every child at Pinemere. Many staff members have attended our camp as children and CITs, but even those that come to us as adults represent the values that Pinemere prides itself on. Our average counselor is approximately 20 years of age, and our average supervisor is 25 years of age. Our camp staff are screened, interviewed and selected by our camp’s Directors. Each person completes a rigorous Orientation & Training Program before camp, and participates in Pinemere’s in-service training throughout the season.

Summer positions include:

  • Supervisors – must be 21 years of age or older
  • Counselors – General Counselors, and Specialty Counselors
  • Support Staff – Office, Medical, Food Service, Maintenance, Drivers, Security, Housekeeping
Supervisors generally arrive 3 weeks before camp begins, while Counselors arrive 1-2 weeks before camp begins. Specific arrival dates will be announced in the Winter. Our Counselors, Support Staff, and Supervisors make our camp a safe and nurturing place in the summer. Strong Jewish role models and highly skilled instructors create an incredible environment for our campers. [/accordion-item] [accordion-item title="What level of Judaism is observed at Pinemere?"] We describe Pinemere as a “Jewish Identity” experience. Our goal is not to indoctrinate campers and staff into a particular track of Jewish study, but rather to offer a unique living experience where individuals can feel comfortable and in touch with their heritage. Our program is therefore designed to create a Jewish undercurrent, and is able to accommodate a wide range of campers and staff. Over 95% of our campers are Jewish and come from a variety of backgrounds – some practice the religion regularly, while others may be completely unaffiliated. Our staff makeup is approximately 75% Jewish and 25% non-Jewish traditionally, but this will vary from year to year. While we aspire to staff our cabins with counselors that can contribute to our childrens’ Jewish experience, our priority is to hire positive and responsible role models. [/accordion-item] [accordion-item title="Do staff get time off?"] Staff have time off each day with which they can use to make phone calls, send email, take care of personal business, or just relax and watch TV. Staff also have time off most nights of the week after the children are put to bed. Programs especially for staff take place on a regular basis, such as inter- and intra-camp athletics, socials, and talent shows. Staff are granted one “Staff Night Out” each week, when they can leave camp after dinner and see a movie, go shopping, or explore the town of Stroudsburg. Pinemere will facilitate transportation on certain nights of the week. [/accordion-item] [accordion-item title="How many days off do staff get during the summer?"] Staff are allowed a total of 7 days off. Pinemere will provide transportation to and from local pick-up and drop-off points for staff taking days off, as well as to the local bus lines, which can be used to visit nearby cities such as New York and Philadelphia. [/accordion-item] [accordion-item title="May I smoke at camp?"] Pinemere is a non-smoking camp. Smoking is not permitted on camp property. [/accordion-item] [accordion-item title="Are staff paid well?"] We offer a competitive salary based on experience, qualifications, and special skills. [/accordion-item] [/accordion]
