We know that sending your children to overnight camp for the first time will be difficult, and may be made even more so if the camp seems very far away. Pinemere is proud to have developed a camper base from all across the United States, and we make every effort to ensure the best possible experience for all. With regular communication with families, references for prospective families to reach out to, and even providing assistance with travel and visitation, our “long-distance families” can become as comfortable as if Pinemere were just around the corner.
FAQs for Long Distance Families:
Where are campers coming from?
Campers come from 16 states including California, Connecticut, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Ohio, and Virginia, as well as from Israel.
What number/percentage of campers come from outside of the local region (PA, DE, MD, NJ, NY)?
Approximately 20% of the total camper population comes from outside the local area.
Do campers usually come to camp with friends from their area?
Not necessarily. Although many campers come to camp with other children from their neighborhood or school, there are plenty who are the only “Pinemerites” for miles! However, they are still able to keep in touch with their camp friends throughout the year.
How do we deal with long-distance travel/luggage?
If your children will be flying to Pinemere on their own, we are happy to pick them up at one of the local airports (either Lehigh Valley International in Allentown, PA, Newark International in Newark, NJ, or Philadelphia International). Luggage may also be shipped to camp in advance (either via UPS or through Camp Trucking), where it will be kept secure until arrival day. No matter where campers are coming from, we will work with you to make sure that travel is as easy as possible.
What if we can’t come to Visiting Day?
Special arrangements can be made for visitation on a day other than the scheduled camper visiting day (for Full Season/7-week campers only).
